Bulgogi is a popular Korean BBQ dish made with marinated beef that’s grilled or stir-fried. This homemade version is easy, flavorful, and perfect for meal prep!
Ingredients
For the Marinade:
1 lb (450g) beef (ribeye, sirloin, or flank steak)
1/4 cup (60ml) soy sauce
2 tbsp brown sugar or honey
1 tbsp sesame oil
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1/2 tsp ginger (grated)
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp rice vinegar (optional, for extra tenderness)
1/4 cup pear or apple (grated, for natural sweetness)
1 tbsp gochujang (optional, for a spicy kick)
1/4 cup green onions (chopped)
For Cooking & Serving:
1 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
1/2 onion (sliced)
1 carrot (julienned)
Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Cooked rice, lettuce, or tortillas (for serving)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Meat
✳️Slice the beef thinly (about 1/8 inch thick). For easier slicing, freeze the meat for 30 minutes before cutting.
Step 2: Make the Marinade
✳️In a bowl, mix soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, black pepper, rice vinegar, grated pear/apple, and gochujang.
✳️Add the sliced beef and coat well. Mix in green onions.
✳️ Cover and marinate for at least 30 minutes (or overnight for better flavor).
Step 3: Cook the Bulgogi
✳️Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan or grill over medium-high heat.
✳️Add sliced onions and carrots, stir-fry for 1-2 minutes.
✳️Add the marinated beef in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until browned and caramelized.
Step 4: Serve & Enjoy
✳️Garnish with sesame seeds and more green onions.
✳️Serve with steamed rice, lettuce wraps, or tortillas for a fusion-style meal.
Tips for the Best Bulgogi:
✅ Use ribeye or sirloin for the most tender beef.
✅ Grated pear or apple helps break down the meat fibers, making it juicy.
✅ Marinate overnight for deep, rich flavors.
✅ Grill it for an authentic smoky BBQ taste.
