Risotto is a creamy and flavorful Italian rice dish cooked slowly with broth. It’s perfect for a comforting meal and can be customized with different ingredients like mushrooms, seafood, or vegetables. In this recipe, we’ll make a classic Parmesan risotto that is rich, creamy, and full of flavor
Ingredients
(Serves 4)
1 ½ cups Arborio rice (or any short-grain rice)
4 cups chicken or vegetable broth (warm)
1 small onion (finely chopped)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
½ cup white wine (optional, but adds great flavor)
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Sauté the Onion and Garlic
In a large pan, heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent (about 3 minutes).
Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
Step 2: Toast the Rice
Add the Arborio rice to the pan and stir well for 1-2 minutes until the rice becomes slightly translucent. This helps enhance the nutty flavor.
Step 3: Add Wine (Optional)
Pour in the white wine and stir continuously until it evaporates. This adds depth to the flavor, but you can skip this step if you prefer.
Step 4: Cook with Broth
Start adding the warm broth one ladle at a time, stirring continuously.
Once the rice absorbs the broth, add another ladle and keep stirring.
Repeat this process for about 15-20 minutes until the rice is creamy and tender but still slightly firm (al dente).
Step 5: Add Cheese and Butter
Turn off the heat and stir in Parmesan cheese and the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. This makes the risotto extra creamy.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley and extra Parmesan if desired.
Tips for the Best Risotto
✅ Use Arborio rice – It has the perfect starch content for a creamy risotto.
✅ Warm the broth – Cold broth can slow down the cooking process.
✅ Stir frequently – This helps release starch and makes the risotto creamy.
✅ Don’t overcook – The rice should be soft but slightly firm in the center.
This classic Parmesan risotto is perfect as a main dish or a side. You can also add mushrooms, shrimp, or vegetables for extra flavor.
